Its time to evaluate! Our game trailer has been finalised after a lot of hard work from our development team, Exodus, this trailer was created from scratch by a small group of 4.
I personally think our trailer has come out how we’d hoped, we researched a lot of things to start with such as target audience, previous similar games/trailers, art styles such as rococo for the environment and character styles such as cyber punk, our target audience was generally aimed at 18 and over core gamers, and generally male.
The first scene in our trailer is basically meant to be a standard local pub, with a few people drinking in it, Adam started out by creating this bar, the idea we had was our main character was in the bar, he’d get knocked eventually and wake up to the same bar with a little twist, this bar would now have been destroyed and still currently on fire, this bar scene was also created by Adam. The animations in these scenes were done by James since he is our head animator we left it to his imagination and personally I think it was done well.
The sounds for the first scene was done by me, I had to create sounds using sound sequencers (Reason) and also collect some sounds from sound libraries and edit them using programs like audacity, I also edited the sounds for the final part of our trailer, which I helped draw but left the texturing to Dan, he developed some of his textures in Photoshop and also used some texture libraries for our rococo themed buildings.
All of our 3D work was done by hand, none of it was downloaded or done by following a tutorial, we drew all of our concept art and pretty much developed everything from scratch.
However, I do agree that our trailer could be better, like with everything in life there is always room for improvement. We could of achieved a better outcome (even though I am happy with our outcome at the moment) if we organized ourselves more we would have had more time to develop more detailed work and maybe an extra scene, our main downside was our organization skills, although not terrible, not great either. Also our sound editing could have been done all from scratch if we’d have organized our time better, however with us being a bit strapped for deadlines we had to use more sound libraries than we had hoped.
One of our main problems developing this trailer was our character design, none of us have really explored character modelling before so it was a new area to discover, we had many problems with trying to animate our character by using bones, we wasn’t able to get a smooth animation going so we’ve had to stand our character down in a still position. This is something our team would have tried to change if we’d of had more time or better organization skills.
Comments I have had from showing people my trailer, would be things such as “scary but well done” and along them general lines, which is what we wanted to do. We wanted a scary trailer that would leave people wanting more, a game that can actually give people emotion such as fear is always considered good in my opinion.
Overall our team is happy with our trailer, we have worked hard and created an outcome which is satisfying to the time we spent creating it. It’s weird to watch your own trailer for the first time, and it’s a good feeling that we’ve actually managed to create something using industry standard programs.
